Nils-Jannik Heukamp

In my scientific work, I investigate functional adaptations of the brain's emotional-affective processing and its interaction with the body in response to aversive experiences in chronic pain, mental illness, and in its regular interindividual and everyday variability. My aim is to understand dysfunctional mechanisms and dynamics, as well as to identify their differentiated role in the course of disease, in order to develop mechanistically informed models that can enable better patient care and prevention in the long term. In addition to my scientific work, I am also active as a psychological psychotherapist in training (CBT) in clinical contexts.
